Overview
Start with the Battle Bus and learn a reproducible first match rather than memorizing seasonal loot.
How it works

Fortnite beginner walkthrough: detailed walkthrough
Understand the win condition
Battle Royale is not a deathmatch: your task is to survive the shrinking playable zone and outlast other players. The Battle Bus determines the opening, but not the final circle. You can gain valuable practice even in matches without many eliminations by observing why later rotations become unsafe.
Choose a repeatable opening
Select a modest location with at least two places to collect loot and a simple escape route. During descent, look at nearby gliders. If another player lands directly at your first weapon, change your path rather than forcing a race you have already lost.
Build an understandable inventory
Collect one dependable close-range option, one mid-range option and enough healing to recover from a single duel. Reload when safe. Extra high-rarity weapons are not automatically useful when they duplicate your existing combat range.
Move with the safe zone
Look at the map before the Storm reaches you. Plan a path that connects terrain, cover and useful crossing points. Avoid arriving at the circle edge at the same time as several other teams.
Finish the match deliberately
Late circles punish exposed looting. Pick a position with two exits and wait for clear opportunities. If you lose, identify whether the issue was aim, route, cover or an unnecessary fight, and work on exactly one of those.
Practice checklist and common failure
Before queuing again, write down one observation from your last game that relates to understand the win condition, and one from finish the match deliberately. Test the next recommendation in a low-pressure match, then compare whether your decision produced more cover, a better route or a safer resource state. Do not judge this drill only by eliminations: your objective is to make the decision repeatable and measurable across several matches. When a seasonal item mentioned in another guide is missing, apply the underlying principle rather than assuming an old loot pool is still live.
