Separate entry from escape
When a movement tool can get you into danger and out again, spending it creates a commitment. Identify the cover you can reach without a second use. If the answer is nowhere, wait for a more favourable situation or enter on foot while preserving the ability.
Watch the ability that stops your plan
Do not attempt to track every cooldown in the match. Choose the one enemy tool most likely to interrupt what you want to do: a barrier, an escape, a displacement or a defensive effect. Seeing it used is information. It is not a guarantee that the target has no other protection.
Trade one resource for useful information
A short burst of pressure can reveal whether an opponent retreats, uses protection or receives help. Keep enough of your own kit available to respond. Avoid spending an ultimate simply because your initial approach failed; first check whether teammates are still in position to benefit.
Measure a repeatable decision
In a replay, mark each engagement where you used your escape before confirming a route out. Next session, aim to reduce that behaviour. Do not assume the cooldown shown in an old guide still applies: use the dated hero snapshot and check whether a newer patch changes it. The practice exercise remains useful even when numerical values change.
