Find your X, Y and Z coordinates on either edition and use them for navigation, mining and recovering important locations.
Java Edition coordinates
On Java Edition, open the debug information screen, typically using F3 on the keyboard. Your current X, Y and Z values identify horizontal position and height.
Some laptops require a function key modifier, and server or accessibility settings can change what appears. Record coordinates before a risky journey rather than trying to recover them afterward.
Bedrock Edition coordinates
In Bedrock Edition, open world settings and enable the option to display coordinates when that option is available for your world. The current values appear during play.
Do not confuse map markers with full numerical coordinates. A compass points toward world spawn under normal conditions; it is not a replacement for saving base coordinates.
What the three numbers mean
X describes east–west position, Y is height, and Z describes north–south position. Negative values are valid and identify the opposite direction from positive ones.
To retrace a path, compare the current X and Z to the numbers you recorded. Make corrections on one axis at a time to avoid circling past your destination.
