Overview
Learn fundamental Luau programming without copying unknown executables.
How it works
Follow the chapters in sequence. Each explains a distinct action, what you can verify in Roblox or Studio, and the limits that depend on the individual experience.
Practical advice
Choose the section relevant to your goal, put it into practice inside the current version and review the outcome before progressing.
Mistakes to avoid
Never assume an old tutorial, code, currency value or creator policy remains current. Avoid external credential prompts and exploit downloads.
Luau First Scripts and Variables: complete walkthrough
Where scripts run
Roblox uses Luau. A server Script handles authoritative state, while a LocalScript can respond to local player controls and UI.
Work with variables
Store counts, settings and player data in named variables. Use consistent types and understand nil so code does not crash on missing objects.
Use functions
Write functions for a small purpose, like calculating a score or setting a UI label. Group reusable behavior into modules rather than giant files.
Connect events
Use event connections for player joins, button clicks and in-game signals. Test repeated joins and reconnects so callbacks do not fire twice.
Build safe requests
RemoteEvents pass messages; the server must check allowed actions, ranges and input types before changing game state.
Debug gradually
Use Studio play testing, inspect output and change one thing at a time. Never paste unknown exploit scripts into your project.
