Overview
Save progress responsibly and protect the client-server boundary.
How it works
Follow the chapters in sequence. Each explains a distinct action, what you can verify in Roblox or Studio, and the limits that depend on the individual experience.
Practical advice
Choose the section relevant to your goal, put it into practice inside the current version and review the outcome before progressing.
Mistakes to avoid
Never assume an old tutorial, code, currency value or creator policy remains current. Avoid external credential prompts and exploit downloads.
Roblox Data Stores and Server Validation: complete walkthrough
Choose the correct storage
DataStoreService supports persistent progress; MemoryStoreService suits temporary cross-server information. Do not confuse them.
Keep important logic on the server
The server should decide rewards, damage, inventory updates and purchase fulfillment.
Validate client requests
Verify action permission, input values and request rate for every remote affecting game state.
Handle failures
Persistence can fail or be throttled. Use documented patterns, bounded retries and safe defaults.
Test without harming live data
Avoid pointing Studio tests at production data stores. Use a separate test experience.
Plan recovery
Keep backups or recoverable versions and communicate whether a save truly succeeded.
Apply the lesson in a real session
For a coin reward, treat the remote message as a request to perform an action—not as evidence of an earned coin amount. The server checks whether the action is permitted, determines the award, updates the authoritative balance and separately persists qualifying data.
