How the Mines elevator saves progress, what to carry and when to retreat instead of losing a long expedition.
Use the elevator as your progress system
In the regular Mines, a new elevator checkpoint becomes available at five-floor intervals. That means progress does not need to happen in one enormous trip.
Aim to reach the next checkpoint, return safely and start a later session from that level. This turns mining into manageable objectives.
Pack for a focused trip
Bring food, a working weapon, a pickaxe and inventory space for resources. If you are frequently running out of time, set a smaller goal and leave early enough to reach your bed.
Food and equipment matter more than racing a timer. A slightly slower run that reaches a checkpoint and preserves resources is often better than a reckless attempt.
Staircases can bypass a difficult floor
Once you can craft staircases, they let you move past an inconvenient floor immediately. Use them strategically rather than treating every hostile level as a fight you must win.
A staircase consumes resources, so consider whether you would rather mine safely or spend materials to keep progress moving.
- 01Choose the next five-floor checkpoint as your target.
- 02Keep food accessible before combat starts.
- 03Prioritize an exit if health becomes low.
- 04Return to the elevator before planning the next run.
Do not confuse Mines with Skull Cavern
Skull Cavern has different progression and risk considerations. Advice about the standard Mines elevator should not be used as if every dungeon had the same checkpoint system.
