Compare the two permanent farm cave research choices and decide which better fits your existing production plan.
Know when the decision appears
Demetrius offers a choice after the farm reaches the required earnings milestone. The cave can then be configured for mushroom production or fruit bats. On a normal playthrough, this selection is permanent, so the useful question is what the farm actually needs rather than which choice someone calls universally best.
The fruit bat option produces fruit intermittently; the mushroom option provides a different source of gathered materials. Both can be useful, but neither will replace a complete farming, mining and foraging economy.
| Cave choice | Potential advantage | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Fruit bats | Can supply fruit useful for some bundles | Drops are intermittent |
| Mushrooms | Supplies an alternative collection resource | Value depends on other gatherable sources |
Choose based on the bottleneck
Fruit can help with certain bundle or processing needs, especially when orchards are not established. Mushrooms can support a different range of crafting, recovery or collection goals.
If you already have mature fruit trees, the extra occasional fruit may be less compelling. If gathering mushrooms is easy in your normal route, the mushroom cave may offer less relative value. These are planning tradeoffs, not patch-proof profit claims.
- 01Review current bundle and collection gaps.
- 02List what your existing farm already produces.
- 03Pick the cave output that fills the more troublesome gap.
Do not overstate daily yield
The wiki documents the mechanics and possible outputs, but the exact usefulness of either cave depends on play style and game version. Avoid treating a lucky fruit drop or a single day’s sample as a guaranteed daily income.
Keep a dedicated storage location for cave goods. Their value often comes from a collection, recipe or bundle requirement rather than simply their sale price.
