01

Overview

Recruit, house and organize the main town NPCs without sacrificing survival.

02

How it works

Some NPCs arrive after milestones, some require inventory conditions and others must be rescued while exploring specific areas.

03

How to use it

Plan spare rooms and safe rescue routes while tackling bosses and biomes.

04

Mistakes to avoid

Do not attempt to lure every NPC into town by merely creating an empty bedroom.

ORIGINAL VOLPEDIA WALKTHROUGH

Complete NPC Recruitment Route: detailed guide

01

Establish starter housing

Build rooms with safe walls, lighting, a table or work surface and a chair, then verify them using the housing query. Merchant and Nurse are common early priorities. Maintain spare rooms as requirements for additional NPCs are fulfilled.

02

Rescue underground and in the Dungeon

Following the Goblin Army, find and free Goblin Tinkerer in caves. Skeletron grants access to Dungeon rescues such as Mechanic. During Hardmode, look for Wizard and other advanced NPCs appropriate to the world state.

03

Special cases and biomes

The Angler is found sleeping near an Ocean; Truffle requires a suitable surface Glowing Mushroom home in Hardmode. NPC friendship and location affect shop prices and pylons, so plan settlements by biome once your base is secure.

04

Build a functional network

Position merchants where their items are most useful, then connect towns by pylons where possible. Protect homes against Hardmode spreading evil and invasions. Instead of maximizing population under one roof, aim for fast access, safe respawn and useful shop combinations.
