How it works
This original Volpedia walkthrough breaks the route into five practical stages. Charms are equipped at benches and consume Notches, not Geo per use. The Knight begins with three Notches, while additional ones are collected or bought later. Choose a build goal before filling slots: exploration, spellcasting, defensive healing or Nail damage. The most expensive combination is not automatically the best.
Practical strategy
Quick Slash and strength-oriented Charms can improve safe damage windows, while Mark of Pride helps maintain distance. High damage is useful only if you survive long enough to land attacks. Identify whether the boss rewards two short hits or one safely timed strike, then choose your Notches accordingly.
Common mistake to avoid
Fragile Charms may break on normal death, while late upgrades and alternate forms change this. Kingsoul and Void Heart are a late-story replacement path. Some Charms are mutually exclusive results of a side quest. When a build changes your healing or dash behavior, practise in a safe area before a long boss run.
Charms and Notches Complete Strategy
Build a Notch budget
Charms are equipped at benches and consume Notches, not Geo per use. The Knight begins with three Notches, while additional ones are collected or bought later. Choose a build goal before filling slots: exploration, spellcasting, defensive healing or Nail damage. The most expensive combination is not automatically the best.
Exploration vs boss fights
Wayward Compass and Gathering Swarm are convenient while visiting unknown territory. Before a difficult arena, return to a bench and replace navigation Charms with combat tools if needed. Longnail can reduce contact risk; Quick Focus can make specific heal gaps easier. Avoid treating a traversal setup as universal.
Nail-focused loadouts
Quick Slash and strength-oriented Charms can improve safe damage windows, while Mark of Pride helps maintain distance. High damage is useful only if you survive long enough to land attacks. Identify whether the boss rewards two short hits or one safely timed strike, then choose your Notches accordingly.
Spell-focused loadouts
Shaman Stone raises spell damage and Spell Twister reduces spell cost. Use the Nail to gather SOUL, then choose whether to spend it on Shade Soul, Descending Dark or healing. A build that spends all SOUL immediately needs a plan for resource recovery; otherwise it becomes unreliable in long encounters.
