Compare Z-A Battle Club online ranked matches with private Link Battles, four-player rules, rewards and multiplayer requirements.
Two different ways to use the Battle Club
The official Z-A Battle Club documentation describes Ranked Battles against other Trainers and Private Battles for inviting friends. Both are multiplayer activities, distinct from the story-mode Z-A Royale that happens within Lumiose City.
Private Battles use a Link Code to connect players and allow adjustments to the rules. Ranked Battles have a progression and reward structure rather than being a simple way to test an arrangement with a known friend.
What a standard Link Battle involves
Up to four Trainers compete in real-time battles, and the official announcement describes a three-minute format with points for defeating opponents’ Pokémon. Do not confuse this with a traditional turn-based one-on-one match.
Your priorities should account for space and timing as well as type coverage. A strategy that works in a story duel may not transfer directly to a busy multiplayer match with several opponents moving at once.
- 01Choose Ranked if you want formal progression.
- 02Choose Private to practice with invited friends.
- 03Check your game update and connectivity before starting.
Requirements and rewards
The official multiplayer announcement says online play requires the applicable Nintendo Switch Online membership and the latest update data. It also documents compatibility across the base game and Switch 2 editions.
Rewards and competitive seasons can change. Check the live game display instead of trusting fixed charts of seasonal rewards; the official site describes battle rewards, promotion rewards and season-end rewards as different categories.
