How it works
Five-part, original Volpedia guide to act i route and quest order, explaining the actual Baldur’s Gate 3 mechanics, common decision points and ways to avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Practical strategy
Follow the chapters in order, then open the related entries when a game rule or location is unfamiliar.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not confuse a suggested route with the only valid story outcome. Check quest warnings before irreversible decisions.
Act I Route and Quest Order: walkthrough
Recruit allies before leaving
Leave the Nautiloid, recruit nearby survivors on the Ravaged Beach and visit the Emerald Grove. Speak to multiple NPCs before pledging support to a faction. Recruit enough companions to test frontline, skill and spellcasting roles.
Explore the grove and village
Investigate the Blighted Village and nearby paths while managing rest supplies. Exploration can be dangerous at low level; do not rush into an optional monster lair without preparing your spell slots and scouting the terrain.
Choose Goblin Camp approach
The Goblin Camp supports multiple approaches: dialogue, infiltrating with social skills or direct combat. Decide who needs to remain alive for your intended storyline and handle the three leaders with a coherent plan. Choices can influence the grove and your allies.
Underdark versus Mountain Pass
Explore the Underdark and Mountain Pass as important but different areas. In the Underdark, watch for cliffs, fungal hazards and Grymforge. On the Mountain Pass, consider Lae’zel’s priorities and do not neglect monastery clues.
Check quests before transitioning
Before leaving Act I, check journal objectives and warnings about advancing the story. Return to camp for conversations, prepare food and consumables, and ensure the party is equipped for the Shadow-Cursed Lands.
