Mask Shards are collectible upgrades: completing a set increases the Knight's health capacity. They can be found through exploration, purchases and other progression tasks, so a health upgrade is often the result of visiting several regions rather than farming a single enemy.
Put it into practice
When a route feels punishing, compare the cost of repeated attempts with the benefit of exploring for a missing shard. Mark inaccessible locations instead of guessing that every collectible can be reached with current equipment.
