Model assumes 1-block-thick walls, no roof or floor in walls mode; a door opening removes 2 blocks, a window removes 1. Openings must not overlap. Actual supports, stairs, decoration and overhangs are not counted.

How it works, step by step

  1. For a room with one-block-thick walls, count the perimeter and multiply by the wall height. The result excludes its floor and roof.
  2. A floor is one layer across the full rectangle. Solid mode counts every block in the rectangular prism. Doorway slots and window openings are subtracted only in the walls mode.
  3. A build with multiple floors, stairs, thick walls, special blocks or roofs needs a separate count. Allow spare materials so you do not run short halfway through construction.
