In short: Carry a map, mark your home and plan trips for resources that do not exist near your base.
What is Biomes and Exploration?
Learn how terrain, climate and biome-specific resources influence exploration.
How it works
Biomes affect scenery, vegetation, structures, some spawning and hazards.
How to approach it
Carry a map, mark your home and plan trips for resources that do not exist near your base.
Common mistake to avoid
Biome appearance alone cannot prove the presence of a rare structure.

Choose a destination by resources
Different biomes are valuable for different reasons. Forests provide logs and saplings, plains often make simple bases, jungles offer a distinct ecosystem and badlands are useful for terracotta palettes. Warm and cold environments change travel risks. The presence of a biome is not proof that a particular structure generated at a visible location, so treat rare building searches as expeditions, not guaranteed pickups.
Prepare a route before leaving
Write down base coordinates, bring food, a bed or a safe return strategy, a pickaxe, blocks and a navigation aid. Mountains can involve dangerous falls or powdered snow, oceans require a boat or water-breathing plan, and underground biomes require lighting and escape routes. Mark junctions so you can return without depending entirely on memory. Preserve inventory room for resources and do not take all of your rare equipment simply to scout an area.
Underground environments
Lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark each reward different approaches. Dripstone introduces sharp fall hazards; lush caves supply useful decorative blocks and aquatic life; deep-dark sculk mechanics make noise and vibrations consequential. Newer sulfur caves have their own ecosystem and require the same caution you would apply to unfamiliar hazards. Use a staircase, not a vertical drop, when making a secure route between cave levels.
Build an exploration network
As you gain resources, connect important discoveries with marked roads, Nether portals where appropriate, boat routes or safe bridges. A small outpost with a bed, chest and basic supplies can make distant resource trips more practical. Label the dimension alongside any coordinate records. Regularly return home to sort valuables rather than extending a trip until one surprise fight can cost everything.
