01

Overview

Understand the first steps after Wall of Flesh without assuming fixed ore pairs.

02

How it works

The Hardmode stage introduces new materials and stronger crafting stations, with ore variants depending on world generation and other acquisition paths.

03

How to use it

Mine for the correct tool and forge upgrades while keeping early Hardmode routes manageable.

04

Mistakes to avoid

Do not expect pre-Hardmode pickaxes to mine every new ore.

ORIGINAL VOLPEDIA WALKTHROUGH

Hardmode Ores and Crafting: detailed guide

01

Read the ore tier system

New Hardmode metals occur in tiers with paired alternatives. You do not need to obtain both versions of every pair. Learn which ore your world provides and which pickaxe upgrade opens the next tier; also consider fishing crates and alternative progression when appropriate.

02

Install upgraded stations

Craft an appropriate advanced Anvil, then later upgrade the Forge. Some new armor and weapons need the upgraded station, so amassing bars alone will not make the recipe appear. Plan a full equipment set before consuming rare metal.

03

Prepare for mechanical bosses

Use early Hardmode gear in a protected arena and choose which mechanical boss matches your weapon style. Materials from victories unlock better equipment and move you closer to Plantera. The three bosses can be defeated in different orders.

04

Preserve your support network

Biome spread and higher enemy damage can disrupt old routes. Verify pylon towns, stock potion ingredients and prepare recall access. Consider temporary safe farming arenas rather than mining every resource inside a dangerous enemy cluster.
