Extraction routes and safe retreats: complete guide
Start with the exit
Work backward from a plausible extract to one or two useful loot destinations. Identify an alternate route before entering a dense area so one contested crossing cannot trap you.
Use layered cover
Move between structural cover and terrain bends; treat exposed roads and long corridors as temporary crossings, not places to sort inventory. Listen whenever movement or machine fire changes.
Manage your cargo
A heavy collection of valuable materials shifts the value of risk. After finding the one item you need, the rational plan can become to leave rather than contest more loot.
Approach extraction
Before committing to the final approach, inspect likely player angles, verify a working exit and retain at least one tool or enough stamina to reposition. Calling attention to yourself too early creates pressure.
Retreat after a failure
A blocked approach is not a reason to force a doomed fight. Backtrack via cover, take a longer exit route and abandon marginal loot if needed to bring the core objective home.
