Understand Elden Ring equip load categories, why dodge rolls feel different and how to adjust heavy equipment.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

Weapons, armor and other equipped items contribute to equip load. Moving into a heavier load category changes the feel of dodge rolls, which can be more important than a small defensive stat gain.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

If boss attacks keep catching your recovery animation, review the load category shown in the status screen. Try a lighter setup or adjust build priorities before concluding that the boss is impossible.

  1. 01Check current equip load
  2. 02Test dodge timing
  3. 03Compare armor choices
  4. 04Keep a load you can control
03 / 03

Common mistake to avoid

Wearing the heaviest available armor is not always safer if it makes dodging much harder. Compare survivability in actual combat, not just defense numbers.
