A practical Factorio circuit network troubleshooting guide: verify red or green wire connections, signal sources, comparison conditions, and whether a device is enabled by its network input.
Begin with one device and one signal
When a circuit-controlled inserter, pump or belt does not behave as expected, reduce the network to the smallest useful example. Connect a known source to one receiving device with a red or green wire and examine the signals shown in the device interface. A complex network can hide a missing connection behind many valid-looking poles.
The circuit interface can show that a device is not connected when it lacks the necessary red or green wire. First confirm connectivity, then inspect the actual numeric signal delivered at that point. Do not assume a constant combinator elsewhere in the factory reaches this device simply because it is visually nearby.
- 01Check the colored wire reaches the target.
- 02Open the device circuit settings and inspect incoming signals.
- 03Test with one unambiguous item signal and a simple comparison.
Read the comparison exactly as configured
A comparison is only true when its input and operator satisfy the selected rule. Check the item or virtual signal, operator and constant separately. If a chest inventory is meant to control an inserter, ensure the chest is configured to report its contents to the connected circuit network.
Red and green wired signals can be combined at an input. That behavior can be useful, but it may surprise a beginner who expected one network to override the other. Simplify the signal sources before using specialized Each, Anything or Everything combinator operations.
| Observed symptom | First check |
|---|---|
| Device says not connected | Red/green wire physically reaches it |
| Input always reads zero | Source is set to send the expected signal |
| Condition never passes | Correct item, operator and threshold |
| Works only sometimes | Pulse versus continuous read mode, or changing item count |
Do not confuse circuit and logistic conditions
The roboport-based logistic network and the red/green wired circuit networks are different systems. Some machines can respond to both types of conditions. When both are configured, the conditions can combine so that a valid circuit condition alone is not enough to enable the machine.
Inspect every enabled control mode and temporarily remove conditions that are not part of the test. Only reintroduce them after the single-signal case works. This separates network wiring problems from valid but unexpected logistic-network rules.
Scale the test to the real factory
After the smallest example works, reconnect sources gradually and watch how the signal values change. If the fault returns after one connection, isolate that new source or combinator. Write down what the circuit is supposed to do in a short sentence before expanding the logic.
