Troubleshoot a silent steam engine by following water, fuel, steam, electrical connection and actual power demand in that order.
- Diagnostic order
- Water → fuel → steam → grid
Trace fuel, water and steam
Steam power is a chain: a water source feeds the boiler, fuel keeps the boiler hot, and steam reaches a steam engine. Missing any part stops the chain even when the remaining machines look connected. Start at the water side and follow the pipes and equipment in order rather than repeatedly rebuilding everything.
Check that the boiler is receiving its fuel and the water connection is positioned correctly. Steam must leave the proper output toward the engine. A power pole alone cannot fix an interrupted fluid or fuel connection.
- 01Inspect the water connection to the boiler.
- 02Confirm a usable fuel source reaches the boiler.
- 03Trace steam to the engine before adjusting the electric grid.
| Symptom | Check first | Then inspect |
|---|---|---|
| Boiler cold | Water and fuel inputs | Inlet orientation and delivery |
| Engine idle | Available steam | Electricity demand and pole coverage |
| Repeated outage | Net power production | Upstream power for supporting equipment |
Confirm the electrical network
A running engine is useful only when its power reaches the machines that need it. Place poles so that generation and consumers are connected to the same electrical network. Open the electrical network information to compare production, consumption and satisfaction.
If a mining drill is stopped, inspect whether it is truly inside a pole coverage area rather than merely near its visible wires. A producer may remain idle when demand is low; inactivity does not always indicate damage.
Diagnose by symptom
If water is missing, inspect the offshore pump and pipe path. If the boiler lacks fuel, improve delivery using a suitable belt or inserter. If steam is present but the factory remains dark, inspect poles and power network boundaries.
As your factory expands, consumption can outrun production. Add capacity only after measuring demand, otherwise the same issue will reappear when more machines are connected.
- 01Run a small test line before expanding.
- 02Check the network graph after adding each new consumer.
- 03Keep fuel transport independent from machinery that may fail during a blackout.
