Learn how laboratories consume science packs and how to build research supply around the next technology instead of stockpiling random items.
Choose a technology before production
Research is not a generic experience bar. Each technology lists the science packs and effort needed to unlock it. Start by opening the technology tree and selecting an upgrade that removes your current bottleneck, such as a machine or improved logistics.
The requirements of later technologies differ from early ones. Check the actual technology panel for your installed version and enabled expansions rather than using a static, unqualified shopping list.
Feed laboratories consistently
Laboratories need the appropriate packs delivered to them. Build a production route that gathers ingredients, assembles packs and transports them where laboratories can consume them. The goal is a reliable, continuous flow rather than a mountain of packs that cannot reach the machines.
Use belts and inserters or another supported logistics method. If research stops, look for the missing science type, an unreachable pack, lost electricity or an empty upstream ingredient machine.
- 01Select a research target in the technology screen.
- 02Inspect the listed pack types.
- 03Verify that each required pack reaches a powered laboratory.
Adapt the factory to new demand
Later science packs often introduce production chains not required earlier. Leave space to extend the bus, reorganize intermediates or build another specialized district. Research unlocks new options, but it does not automatically manufacture their ingredients.
Treat a research pause as a signal about supply. Follow the missing pack backward through its recipes, identify the first empty input and automate that before adding more laboratories.
