How it works
Talk to Achilles, inspect the Mirror of Night and test your chosen Infernal Arm on Skelly. Check which Keys and Darkness you can spend before leaving; the Courtyard exists so you do not have to learn every input under pressure.
Practical strategy
After any death, cash in permanent resources, seek new dialogue, review upgrades and change only one strategic variable for the next attempt. The useful measure of progress is new knowledge, unlocked options and better consistency, not merely a win count.
Common mistake to avoid
Do not treat one particular boon or drop as guaranteed; adapt the guide to the run you receive.
Complete Beginner Escape Guide
Prepare in the House
Talk to Achilles, inspect the Mirror of Night and test your chosen Infernal Arm on Skelly. Check which Keys and Darkness you can spend before leaving; the Courtyard exists so you do not have to learn every input under pressure. Practical check: before the next escape, identify the one action or resource that will make this step easier. The best guide is one you can test room by room, rather than a fixed sequence that depends on random rewards.
Plan the first chambers
Treat Tartarus as a lesson in reading enemy tells and deciding between reward doors. Build around your weapon’s main Attack or Special; take HP when a few more hits will decide whether the run survives. In a real run, watch for the exact moment when this plan stops being comfortable: an enemy projectile, an unfavorable chamber reward or a poor health total. That point tells you whether to change positioning or build direction.
Survive the middle regions
Asphodel makes the arena part of the enemy: plan dashes around lava. Elysium asks for shield flanks and control of respawning shades. You are training two distinct skills, not repeating Tartarus with higher damage. Try this deliberately on your next attempt, without also changing weapon and Mirror setup at the same time. Keeping other variables stable makes the result easier to judge and helps you learn what worked.
Finish the escape attempt
Enter Styx prepared for poison and a possible long search for the Satyr Sack. Keep healing for the Surface; the final fight has distinct phases and should not be rushed just because its first health bar disappears. If the encounter becomes risky, first preserve an open path to safety. There is rarely a reason to sacrifice an entire Death Defiance just to complete one more attack animation during a dangerous telegraph.
Turn failure into progression
After any death, cash in permanent resources, seek new dialogue, review upgrades and change only one strategic variable for the next attempt. The useful measure of progress is new knowledge, unlocked options and better consistency, not merely a win count. Before leaving the region, ask whether you gained combat consistency, permanent resources or useful narrative progress. Any of those makes the next run stronger, even when this particular escape does not succeed.
