01

Overview

When megaevolution becomes useful and what you need to activate it.

02

How it works

Mega Evolution is a temporary transformation available to certain Pokémon. It requires the appropriate Mega Stone and the in-game Mega Evolution mechanics. In Z-A, megaevolution plays a major role in ordinary battles, special encounters and the story.

03

How to play

Learn the specific Pokémon’s move range before activating a Mega Evolution. Time the transformation to take advantage of a favorable matchup or a dangerous opening. Mega Stones are species-specific; owning one does not imply every Pokémon can use it.

04

Mistakes to avoid

Do not assume every Mega Stone comes from normal exploration. Some have been awarded through online ranked battle seasons, and their availability can change over time.

IN-DEPTH GUIDE

Go further: Mega Evolution and Mega Stones

01

A practical sequence

First confirm that the Pokémon can megaevolve and that you have its Mega Stone. Then prepare an appropriate combat set and learn the activation prompt before a difficult boss fight.

02

Choosing the moment

A transformation used just before being forced away from the opponent may waste much of its impact. Wait until you can actually capitalize on extra offensive pressure.

03

Rogue Mega Evolution

The story also features Pokémon that megaevolve spontaneously and become distressed. These are encounter and narrative challenges, not ordinary members of your party automatically acquiring new forms.
