Plan the opening hours around breathable air, hydration and reliable equipment.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

Subnautica starts with a small survival loop: gather accessible materials, craft essential equipment and return to air before a dive becomes dangerous. Staying near familiar shallow areas is often better than rushing toward an intriguing distant signal.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

Use short exploratory dives and bring materials back for crafting. Keep track of the escape route to the surface, especially when entering caves where a straight ascent is not possible. Watch hydration alongside food; both affect how long an expedition remains safe.

  1. 01Check water and food
  2. 02Plan a reachable air source
  3. 03Gather only needed materials
  4. 04Return before oxygen is critical
03 / 03

Common mistake to avoid

Large creatures and deep water are not the only threats. Misjudging oxygen in a narrow cave can be dangerous even very close to the starting location.
