Prepare your base, equipment, transport and storage before permanently turning your Terraria world into Hardmode.
Hardmode is a world state, not just a difficulty setting
The first victory over the Wall of Flesh converts the world into Hardmode, opening new content and significantly tougher enemies. New biomes are created, including Hallow and a world-evil region, affecting exploration and established routes.
Do not confuse this transition with Expert or Master world difficulty. Those are separate choices; defeating the Wall of Flesh changes the progression state of your current world.
What to prepare first
Organize coins and resources, build safer paths around your base and make sure you have a reliable way to move between home and important regions. Stockpile healing, useful blocks and an alternative weapon before the boss attempt.
World-evil spread can affect important areas over time, so it helps to note where valuable biomes and towns are located before the transition.
- 01Back up your world using the method supported by your platform.
- 02Check which NPC houses and travel routes matter most.
- 03Store valuable materials away from immediate danger.
- 04Review your movement accessories and healing supplies.
First priorities after the transition
New enemies can make ordinary trips dangerous. Explore cautiously to identify new materials, then improve armor and weapons rather than rushing immediately into the next major boss.
Revisit important NPC locations and assess whether new biome conditions affect them. Protecting your transport network can save more time than chasing every new drop immediately.
Keep a version-aware checklist
Terraria has multiple editions and ongoing changes. A guide with old percentages or overly exact item requirements may be inaccurate for your version.
