Plan biome towns, keep NPC houses valid and understand why a Pylon may refuse to work.
A Pylon is part of a network
Pylons provide fast travel between suitable locations. You need more than a single Pylon placed in one town: a usable connection depends on the network and the conditions at both ends.
Each ordinary Pylon belongs to a biome, and towns need enough eligible housed NPCs nearby. Its placement is therefore connected to housing, not just inventory management.
Start with two useful locations
Choose places you frequently revisit, such as your main town and a distant resource area. Place valid housing first, then build the route around residents and biome suitability.
NPC preferences and neighbors can influence whether certain Pylons are sold. Use the linked official wiki to check current preferences before relocating every NPC in your world.
- 01Build valid homes in two useful biomes.
- 02Move or assign NPCs to the homes.
- 03Check Pylon availability with a qualifying vendor.
- 04Test both endpoints using the world map.
Why does teleportation fail?
Common causes include an unsuitable biome, not enough eligible residents around a Pylon or a restriction caused by an active encounter. Check both the starting and destination Pylons.
Also check whether the Pylon is close enough for interaction and whether your map settings permit the action. The exact requirements are documented in the reference.
Do not optimize every relationship on day one
A perfectly optimized Pylon network is unnecessary for a beginner. Two working destinations already reduce travel time. You can refine shopping discounts and resident pairings as the world grows.
Leave space for new NPCs; moving one resident for a new item or biome should not require dismantling every house.
