Understand dialogue checks, modifiers and when an Inspiration reroll is valuable.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

Many non-combat decisions involve a d20 roll modified by skills, abilities and other bonuses. Inspiration can provide a reroll for eligible checks, but it is a limited party resource rather than a guarantee of success.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

Before spending Inspiration, judge whether the outcome matters to your character or a key quest. Equipment, guidance effects and conversation choices can sometimes improve your prospects, but not every check can be retried indefinitely.

  1. 01Review the target and modifiers
  2. 02Consider available bonuses
  3. 03Use Inspiration on meaningful failures
  4. 04Accept alternative story outcomes
03 / 03

Common mistake to avoid

Failing a roll does not always end a story path. Resist spending all rerolls on a minor optional benefit while ignoring more consequential future choices.
