Know which resources recover at short rests and why long rests are part of party management.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

A short rest offers limited healing and restores selected class features without ending the day, while a long rest at camp restores a much wider range of resources using camp supplies for a full rest. Many narrative interactions can also occur in camp.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

Inspect depleted spell slots and class resources before deciding. A martial party with useful short-rest features may continue longer than a spell-heavy party that has spent its strongest slots. Rest deliberately rather than waiting until every companion is downed.

  1. 01Check spell slots and health
  2. 02Use short rests for relevant features
  3. 03Keep adequate camp supplies
  4. 04Review active quest urgency
03 / 03

Common mistake to avoid

A long rest can advance certain time-sensitive situations. Read quest context when an event appears urgent rather than assuming every delay is harmless.
