Learn why concentration effects cannot simply be stacked and how to protect them.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

Many sustained spells use concentration. Casting another concentration spell usually ends the previous one, and taking damage can force a concentration saving throw. Positioning and protection matter when a powerful ongoing effect supports the whole party.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

Before casting, identify which other character abilities depend on the effect. Keep the concentrating character out of unnecessary danger and avoid replacing a useful spell accidentally. Sometimes a non-concentration action is the better next move.

  1. 01Identify concentration on the spell card
  2. 02Avoid simultaneous concentration spells
  3. 03Protect the caster
  4. 04Check the combat log when it ends

Common mistake to avoid

A spell failing to persist is not always a bug. Check for a new concentration spell, damage, a condition or another interruption.
