01

Overview

A major DLC boss mixing flame, piercing attacks and a dramatic phase transition.

02

How it works

Long combos and serpent-themed follow-ups punish attacking after incomplete sequences.

03

How to approach it

Keep your punishes short and watch the second phase before committing to recovery animations.

04

Common mistakes

Do not assume a visually big attack is also the end of the combo.

ORIGINAL VOLPEDIA WALKTHROUGH

Messmer the Impaler: step by step

01

Major DLC milestone

Messmer is reached through Shadow Keep and is central to DLC progression. Consider advancing relevant NPC conversations before passing major story thresholds.

02

Fire and thrust timing

The fight combines lunging spear attacks and extended flame sequences. Dodge for the actual thrust release and move away from the explosion zone rather than rolling repeatedly inside it.

03

Serpent phase

Later attacks change visual language, bringing dangerous serpent-like movements. Learn one recovery pattern at a time, use brief punishes and resist chasing the boss mid-animation.
