Diagnose missing water, inadequate coal delivery and electrical-grid problems in an automated coal generator setup.
Check the two continuous inputs
A coal generator requires a steady fuel supply and water. A conveyor full of coal does not prove the water network is delivering enough fluid; similarly, a full pipe cannot rescue an empty fuel belt. Inspect each input separately in the generator interface.
Coal power is an important transition from manually managed biomass to automated generation. Stability comes from sustained input rates and correctly connected power infrastructure, not simply placing more generators.
| Failure pattern | First inspection |
|---|---|
| No fuel | Conveyor and miner throughput |
| Water input fluctuates | Extractor power, pipes and head lift |
| System never restarts | Independent recovery power for water supply |
Trace the water side
Start at the water extractor and follow the pipes, junctions and elevation changes to the generator. Fluid systems have constraints that belts do not, so a visually connected pipe can still fail under demand.
Avoid copying a community ratio without checking the actual recipe and clocks in your save. Alternate fuels and overclocking can change the required flow.
- 01Confirm the water extractor is powered.
- 02Inspect each pipe segment and connected generator input.
- 03Check whether fluid supply remains stable under load.
Inspect the electrical grid
The grid has to supply its own water infrastructure and production equipment. An outage may prevent pumps or extractors from working, causing a failure that keeps repeating after a restart.
Build a deliberate recovery procedure: ensure the water side can start, reconnect consumers in stages and compare sustained power production to factory demand. Test the system before dismantling your former backup.
