Compare resting for immediate survival with smithing a key card for later encounters at Slay the Spire campfires.

01 / 03

Understand the mechanic

At a rest site the choice between rest and smithing can shape your next several encounters. Healing provides immediate survival, while upgrading a well-chosen card can improve many later draws.

02 / 03

Put it into practice

Look ahead on the map before deciding. If an elite or boss is next and your health is fragile, resting may be justified. When you have a comfortable buffer, upgrading a card used every fight may provide more long-term value.

  1. 01Check health and upcoming fights
  2. 02Identify your strongest upgrade target
  3. 03Consider future rest opportunities
  4. 04Choose for the next threat
03 / 03

Common mistake to avoid

Always upgrading is not a sign of skill if it causes an avoidable death. Similarly, always resting can leave damage or block too weak for later acts.
