OVERVIEW

What is Events Curses and Card Removal?

A practical original guide to events curses and card removal, organized around actual Slay the Spire 1 decisions and the threats those decisions must solve.

This reference covers gameplay decisions in the original Slay the Spire. Character-specific options and relic synergy can change how useful an item is, so consider your current deck, health, upcoming enemy and available resources before applying a strategy.

PRACTICAL STRATEGY

When and how to use it

Start with the first section of this walkthrough, apply its sequence in a real run, then adapt the recommendation to the cards, relics and map you actually received.

COMMON MISTAKES

What to avoid

Do not treat this as a predetermined perfect deck or guaranteed seed; enemy intents, card rewards, potion availability and path options change every run.

VOLPEDIA WALKTHROUGH

Step-by-step guide

01

Read event choices as tradeoffs

Events offer uncertain rewards that may cost HP, max HP, gold, cards or curses. A relic or rare card is valuable only if the run survives the next fights. Avoid selecting maximum theoretical value without considering the nearest elite and campfire.

02

Compare curses to future removal

A curse harms draw consistency and may introduce extra effects; the cost grows if merchants are far away or gold is tight. A few runs can exploit curse-related relics, but those cannot be assumed. Do not choose a curse reward solely because the immediate number is attractive.

03

Use card removal purposefully

Removing starter Strikes increases the chance of drawing more impactful attacks or defense later. However, too few early attacks make Act I elites lethal. Prioritize removing the weakest cards only when the remaining deck solves immediate encounters.

04

Transform versus upgrade decisions

Transform exchanges a known weak card for an uncertain new card; upgrading improves a chosen existing tool. Prefer a meaningful upgrade if the deck requires reliability, and take transforms when the expected variability is acceptable. Check remaining floors before choosing.

05

Review event outcomes

Track the damage taken after a risky event and whether the reward was played later. Events are not universally safe or better than fights. Learn which trades your current class and run could afford and use that information at the next branch.
