What is Act I Pathing and Elite Preparation?
A practical original guide to act i pathing and elite preparation, organized around actual Slay the Spire 1 decisions and the threats those decisions must solve.
This reference covers gameplay decisions in the original Slay the Spire. Character-specific options and relic synergy can change how useful an item is, so consider your current deck, health, upcoming enemy and available resources before applying a strategy.
When and how to use it
Start with the first section of this walkthrough, apply its sequence in a real run, then adapt the recommendation to the cards, relics and map you actually received.
What to avoid
Do not treat this as a predetermined perfect deck or guaranteed seed; enemy intents, card rewards, potion availability and path options change every run.
Step-by-step guide
Read the entire available route
Boss portrait and rest sites matter before the first floor. Compare paths with a manageable number of elites, an early merchant if you have enough gold, and a rest opportunity before the boss. Unknown rooms offer uncertainty rather than a guaranteed safe route.
Take damage cards early
Gremlin Nob, Lagavulin and Sentries punish decks that cannot finish fights fast enough. Prioritize reliable immediate attacks and efficient Vulnerable or Weak applications. Expensive late-game scaling alone will not defeat the first elite when the starter deck has inadequate output.
Plan each elite separately
Against Nob, excessive Skills can raise danger. Lagavulin allows a setup window while sleeping. Sentries create Dazed cards that threaten later cycles; eliminating a side Sentry is often useful. Remember you are buying a relic with health and potion resources, not receiving a free reward.
Upgrade, rest or buy a fix
A high-impact upgrade can improve an Act I boss plan more than a small heal, but near-lethal health requires survival. Merchants can remove poor starter cards or sell immediate attacks. Choose a path with enough flexibility to adjust after the first few fights.
Enter the first boss with a real win condition
Hexaghost tests sustained damage and defense, Guardian needs control of its shifts, and Slime Boss makes the split threshold important. Read which boss is at the top of the map and select cards accordingly. After winning, consider whether a boss relic trade improves both your energy and future consistency.
