What is Act III and Final Boss Planning?
A practical original guide to act iii and final boss planning, organized around actual Slay the Spire 1 decisions and the threats those decisions must solve.
This reference covers gameplay decisions in the original Slay the Spire. Character-specific options and relic synergy can change how useful an item is, so consider your current deck, health, upcoming enemy and available resources before applying a strategy.
When and how to use it
Start with the first section of this walkthrough, apply its sequence in a real run, then adapt the recommendation to the cards, relics and map you actually received.
What to avoid
Do not treat this as a predetermined perfect deck or guaranteed seed; enemy intents, card rewards, potion availability and path options change every run.
Step-by-step guide
Prepare the mature deck
Act III is not the time to add every offered card. Evaluate whether your deck can draw its key pieces, block explosive turns, and scale against a long boss. Card removal and specific tech can help more than yet another generic attack.
Respect elites and statuses
Nemesis alternates favorable damage windows, Giant Head rewards rapid scaling before late pressure, and Reptomancer can create lethal daggers. Enemy intents and status cards matter even when your deck feels powerful. Use potions when the floor is dangerous.
Learn all three boss checks
Time Eater limits card play, Awakened One challenges indiscriminate Powers, and Donu and Deca reward coordinated target priority. The boss is visible from the start of the act, so adapt your rewards accordingly. At the highest Ascension, expect an extra Act III boss encounter.
Decide about Act IV keys
An Act III victory can end the run normally, or a three-key run can advance to Act IV. Recall at a rest site for Ruby, defeat a Burning Elite for Emerald, and take Sapphire from a chest instead of its relic. The resource sacrifice should be part of the route plan rather than a last-floor surprise.
Save enough for the final sequence
After the Act III boss, the Act IV elite pair and the Heart need resilient defenses, status mitigation, scaling and sometimes potion reserves. You do not need the same deck for every class, but every deck needs an answer to repeated high-damage turns.
